Dangerous Fashion Fads
Jun 9th
Hilary Magazine looked into some of the most dangerous fashion trends that have made ladies over the last few years, swoon. Literally. Trends such as the 19th century corsets were sometimes laced so tightly, many women fainted from lack of air. Over the last few centuries, extreme fashion has often become synonymous with unhealthy – if not downright dangerous – practices.
One unfortunate fashion-forward woman visiting Italy, suffered a near fatal fall from atop 3 inch platform shoes that left her with twenty stitches in her forehead and ongoing physiotherapy. Some heels are as high as eight-ten inches, which is of course absolutely unsafe and , also pretty sure it’s a fire hazard in some buildings.
The Chinese tradition of binding the feet of infant girls to ensure they remained petite, not only caused excruciating pain and disfigurement, it also bred an unhealthy mental body image. As a result, in today’s age some women even flock to toe-shortening procedures, to ease the wear of pointy-toed high heels, a procedure that will lead ultimately to major foot problems.
High heels and toe surgeries may two horrendous fashion trends, but they certainly don’t stand alone. Platforms, over-sized earrings and body art all present potential bodily harm. More >
‘Fantastic Man’ follows up with one ‘heavy’ issue
Jun 8th
For its latest issue, European men’s magazine Fantastic Man ventures into the much unchartered world of the plus-size male model for the first time.
There’s been such a large amount of blog chatter surrounding women’s magazines’ semi-embrace of plus-size models in recent months, but it’s Fantastic Man’s that’s highlighting a larger male model for its 11th installment. Men’s mannequins may be slimming down significantly this season, but over at the oh-so-chic title from the team behind Butt magazine, a male model with a sizable stomach and softness around just about every edge is front-and-center in a fashion editorial. “A series of stylistic suggestions for bold summer fashions to be worn by gentlemen of quite marvelous shape,” reads the display.
