Social networking for actors
Mar 3rd
These days, many actors choose to promote themselves online by using social networking sites. Acting opportunities are available to the people who make themselves visible to the most people. To become an actor or an actress, you have to take advantage of all methods of self promotion.
However, because so many other people are seeking acting opportunities online, it might be difficult for you to distinguish yourself. To become an actor or actress, you have to approach social networking like you would approach real-life networking: you need to work at it and cultivate relationships.
Think about what will differentiate you from everyone else. Make sure the social networking site is one used by people who can offer you acting opportunities. Do your research – do casting agents and directors frequent these websites?
Also, if you want to become an actor or actress, you will want to showcase your talents. Does the social networking site allow you to upload video, audio, and photography? Will you be able to add your reel and your headshots? Make sure the quality of these features suits your needs.
Marketing Your Personality
Mar 3rd
Pursuing an entertainment career and going after acting opportunities require more than just showcasing your looks. Demonstrating that you have a unique and memorable personality can help you stand out among equally good-looking and qualified candidates.
Do you have a special talent or quirk? Show off your quirk to boost your chances of breaking into an entertainment career and securing more acting opportunities. Even if the audition or meeting doesn’t require you to demonstrate it, find a way to work your special talent into your meeting with the casting agents or directors.
For example, Taylor Swift writes her own music. “I thought if I could walk into an audition and play a song that I had written, then I’d stand out. And that has really made a difference,” Swift once said, in an interview.
Swift had an edge over other pretty girls with pretty voices because she offered a whole package. What can you do besides act? Can you sing? Can you dance? Are you funny?
If you’re serious about pursuing your entertainment career, you are going to have to work hard to open yourself up to acting opportunities. The best way to do this is to be as flexible and as versatile as More >
Importance of Good Headshot Photographer
Mar 3rd
When looking for a photographer to take your actor headshots or model headshots, you should seek someone who has experience shooting aspiring models and actors, people just like you. Ask prospective photographers if they can provide references and definitely review their portfolios; most photographers post sample work on the Internet.
Photographers that charge less than the average for actor headshots and model headshots generally make up for the cost in volume – they take a lot of pictures for less money. Your session might be rushed. If you cannot afford the cost of a high-quality photographer, you risk a bad experience, ugly headshots, and money lost.
Digital photography has made proofing, retouching, and reproducing actor headshots and model headshots a much more streamlined process. You will be able to view your proofs quickly, and the photographer should be able to retouch the photographs appropriately.
Anyone offering a deal on actor headshots and model headshots probably won’t spend as much time processing your photos – processing includes color correcting and retouching, which can make a huge difference in the final results.
Importance of Headshots
Mar 3rd
When you begin your acting career, you will realize that marketing yourself and gaining exposure can be a lot of work. To become an actor or an actress, you will need to attract the attention of casting directors and talent agents.
Those starting an acting career should know that headshots are one of the most important portfolio pieces for anyone who wants to become an actor or actress. A headshot is the first part of the portfolio that a casting director of agent will see, and they will judge, like it or not. Headshots will also be showcased on comp cards.
With thousands of people auditioning for a position and working on their own acting careers, casting directors narrow down their choices based on looks. If you want to get your foot in the door and become an actor or actress, you need to impress a casting director before you enter the door.
In the New York City metro area, most professional headshot photographers charge between $400 and $700. If a photographer is charging less than that, you should question the quality of the finished result and the professionalism involved with the shoot. How to Arrive to Your Headshot Session
Mar 3rd
You’ve been avoiding greasy foods and drinking lots of water in preparation for your actor headshots or model headshots. You look your best, and it’s the day of your headshot session. What do you bring?
For actor headshots or model headshots, women should bring a small makeup kit that includes a mirror, foundation, mascara, lipstick, and other basics. Bring a brush and hairspray. Men should bring a shaving kit, if applicable, a comb, and hair product so that they can experiment with different styles and looks.
Choose clothing in solid colors that will complement your skin, hair, and eyes. Avoid stripes, complicated patterns, and logos, which will be too “busy” in your actor headshots or model headshots. Women should avoid wearing distracting jewelry and exposing too much cleavage. The clothing should enhance your image, not obscure it.
Bring three or four distinct looks: sporty, casual, business, and formal. Go through your closet and pick out your favorite outfits: which articles of clothing do your friends and family like best? Make sure your clothes are clean – they should look new or close to new. Eat before your appointment and bring bottled water and snacks.
How to Prepare for Headshot Session
Mar 3rd
Headshot sessions shouldn’t be a source of stress. Whether you are getting modeling headshots or acting headshots, your ideal headshots will look the way you do on your very best day, which means you have no reason to overdo it with makeup or extravagant clothing.
Think about how you would present yourself for a job interview or a dinner with your grandparents. A good photographer and/or stylist will usually make adjustments once you arrive to your session for modeling headshots or acting headshots.
Both women and men should perform hair removal (waxing/shaving) at least two to three days prior to a shoot. This time will allow your skin to recover from any irritation. Though the focus of the shoot will be the face, groom nails too; anyone going to a headshot session should look neat and well maintained. Teeth should be clean and white.
In the days preceding your shoot for modeling headshots or acting headshots, avoid greasy/salty foods and drink lots of water. Avoid coffee and soda, which may stain your teeth. Assemble your outfits and other necessities prior to your appointment so you are not rushing to your shoot.
