One aspect of talent development is learning how to manage your nervousness or “stage fright”. If you feel nervous during an audition or performance, you should learn how to manage this anxiety. You will have a hard time pursuing a career in acting if you have “stage fright” all the time!
The easiest way to combat anxiety is to be prepared for every audition and performance. The more prepared you are, the more confident you will feel. If you doubt yourself, this doubt will show. During talent development, young actors should learn how to be best prepared for their auditions.
If you’re nervous about how you will look at the audition, consider setting up a video camera and filming yourself for talent development purposes. You will get a better sense of what the casting agents and directors will see when you audition, and you can make adjustments as necessary.
When you pursue a career in acting, you will constantly need to make yourself vulnerable, especially to strangers. Learn how to believe in yourself; confidence will ultimately help you conquer your “stage fright”.

When you begin your career in acting, you will probably encounter lots of words and phrases that you have never heard before. Obtaining acting opportunities will mean that you will have to understand contracts and decipher the language of the acting industry. One word that you might hear, “residuals”, is something that you will need to understand.
Residuals are payments made to talent in commercials; every time a commercial is used and reused, the talent is paid in residuals. While you are pursuing other acting opportunities, you might still be paid the money from your residuals.
Those pursuing a career in acting should know that residuals are different for actors in commercials, television, and film. Union and non-union actors have different pay schedules. Be sure to read the contract so that you know exactly what your residuals will be, and ask if you have any questions.

Small talent agencies usually have a strong commitment to know their new talent personally; they take the time to develop relationships with their clients. Your career in acting could benefit from someone who truly cares about your well-being and success.
Agents and employees at small talent agencies are usually part of a close-knit team that is devoted to securing employment for their new talent. Each agent will have his or her own specialty and a small pool of clients. They only choose new talent most serious about pursuing a career in acting because they will devote all their resources to them.
Self-Esteem and Criticism

Self-confidence is important because you have to know your own strengths and weaknesses. If you truly believe in yourself and your ability to become a model or actor, then you will be better able to weed out the good criticism from the bad.
Remember, the further you progress in your career in acting or modeling, the more people will criticize you. The way you choose to deal with this criticism can either make or break you.
Consider your level of self-esteem. If you have low self-esteem, and you want to become a model, you may have trouble dealing with criticism, even if it’s constructive and meant to help you. You should work on your self confidence before pursuing a career in acting or modeling. Criticism can bruise the egos of even the most confident people.
Take care to monitor yourself and the way you feel about yourself. As you pursue your journey to become a model, ask your friends and family to tell you if they notice any changes in your emotional or physical health. Sometimes, you may not even notice that criticism is negatively affecting you. You wouldn’t want a career in acting or modeling to ruin your life.
